FAQ
My vision seems fine so I never pay attention to my eye care plan. How important is it?
Many eye diseases and disorders have no symptoms or early warning signs so a comprehensive vision and eye examination is an important element in the evaluation of a patient's overall health. The health of the eyes, blood vessels, nerves, and other tissues often reflect the health of other parts of the body.
What health risks can I face if I don't have regular eye exams?
Health problems are not always symptomatic. An eye examination can detect refractive errors, amblyopia (lazy eye) in children, diabetes, glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, tumors, hypertension, strokes, high cholesterol and other diseases.
My children are very young. Should I worry about their vision care right now?
Yes. Vision disorders are the leading cause of handicapping conditions in our children. Treatment before age five is critical. Early recognition of visual disorders will result in more effective treatment.
I work at a computer most of the day. Can this really harm my vision?
The average employee spends as much as six hours a day in front of a computer. Studies indicate that visual symptoms occur in 50-90 percent of computer users and are their most frequent health complaint. This could be a result of improper eyewear, lens prescription or both. Some symptoms include eyestrain, headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes, neck and/or backache, light sensitivity and double vision.
My parents have perfect vision. Do I need regular exams if I'm feeling fine?
Anyone can suffer from vision problems at any time. Vision care is not just for diabetics and those over 60.
- People with high blood pressure or high cholesterol
- The medically obese
- Smokers
- Children and adolescents (and, by association, their parents)
- Computer users
- Outside laborers
- Factory workers
- Adults in all stages of life, and especially over age 40
